A local driver claimed his 50th career win and the Bonanza 40 took center stage to highlight recent racing action Saturday at Shady Bowl Speedway.

In late model action, Quincy’s Josh Smith found victory lane for the fifth time this season after racing a limited schedule this year. The win also marked the 50th career win for Smith.

Smith has raced nearly every class of cars over his career and has won in all of them. Saturday, Smith took the lead on lap 13 and never looked back. Jim Lewis Jr. was forced to settle for second, while Don Mahaffey Jr., John Stroble and Brian Reeser finished third through fifth. Stroble was the dash winner, Reeser and Joe Pequignot won heat races and Smith was the fast qualifier.

Shady Bowl track owner Rick Young added a 40-lap compact feature called the Bonanza 40. The race was to test the possible rule changes for the 2018 season.
