West Liberty-Salem’s softball team fell to visiting Wapakoneta 6-1 in its season opener Tuesday at Sparks Field.

The Redskins plated two runs in the first inning and added two more in the fourth inning for a 4-0 lead. They drove in two more runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-1 advantage.

The Tigers were able to score a run in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all the offense they could generate.

Maddy Stratton went 2-3 at the plate to lead WL-Salem, while Kenedie Cox went 2-4 and Kelsey Day had a triple.

WL-Salem hosts Mechanicsburg on Monday for an Ohio Heritage Conference opener.
