Indian Lake’s wrestling team is starting to hit its stride.
The Lakers started off 2015 with a second-place finish at the Dublin Scioto Kevin Cleveland Memorial Tournament on Saturday.
Pickerington Central won the 15-team tournament with 257.5 points. The Lakers were second with 199 points and St. Johns was a close third with 196.5 points.
“I think this was just another step for our younger guys toward being successful in the postseason,” said IL head coach Scott Tressler. “They have to continue to be aggressive on their feet and push the action throughout the match. If they do that, they will win plenty of matches.”
Four Lakers won their weight classes Saturday. That group included Silas Davis (138), Chance Daisy (152), Isaiah Davis (160) and Steven Major (195).
“Isaiah and Steven had nice tournaments,” said Tressler. “They are starting to understand that they can’t allow distractions to change their match mentality and have to continue to focus on what it takes for them to be successful.”
Sean Warniment (126) was second for the Lakers. Connor Dixon (182) took third, while fourth-place efforts came from Kurt Crockett (145) and Phil Golden (182).
Adding a fifth-place finish was Nate Ricketts (285) and a sixth-place finish came from Nate Warniment (170).
