Shady Bowl features doubleheader over Memorial Day Weekend

Shady Bowl Speedway celebrated the Memorial Day holiday with two nights of racing. It was also the annual running of the Denny Shatto Memorial for the late models.

Chieftain trio, Raiders' Plikerd headed to state meet

Bellefontaine's girls advanced a trio of athletes to the Division II state track and field meet, while Benjamin Logan's Stevie Plikerd also advanced during Saturday's regional competition at the University of Dayton.
The top four placers in each event move on to the Division II state meet this Friday and Saturday in Columbus.
As a team, the Chieftains finished in the top 10 by placing ninth with 27 points. Alter won the girls regional title with 42 points and Dayton Dunbar was second with 34 points.
Leading Bellefontaine's girls was junior Sabella Martin, who won a regional title in the shot put with a throw of 38-11 3/4. Fellow junior Ryelee Clary finished second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.05, while sophomore Zoe Price also took second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 46.62. This will mark the second time Price has qualified to the state meet in the 300 hurdles.
Ben Logan's Plikerd, a sophomore, broke  41-year old school record by jumping 17-3 1/2 to place fourth in the long jump competition.
