Laker boys sit in first after opening day of CBC track and field meet
05/14/08 Central Buckeye Conference track and field favorites Tippecanoe and Bellefontaine are not out to a sizable lead after day one of league action at Northwestern. Instead, Indian Lake has taken charge and is currently in first place with 31 points after scoring four events. Urbana is second with 22 points followed by Tippecanoe and Springfield Shawnee, tied for third with 16 points. Benjamin Logan is fifth (15) and Bellefontaine is eighth (10). The girls race is tight after scoring three events. Tippecanoe has a slight lead over Bellefontaine with 19 points, while the Chiefs have 18.33 points. Springfield Shawnee is in third (14.5) and Indian Lake is fourth (14). Ben Logan is currently ninth with 5.3 points. The meet resumes Saturday with field events at 10 a.m. and running events at 11:30 a.m. Five Lakers boys scored Tuesday. Leading the way was Stacy Jones, who won the long jump with a distance of 21-10 1/2. Dylon Sullivan took fourth in the same event with a jump of 19-10. Thomas Taylor finished fourth in the discus (135-10), while Kyle Hefner took third in the pole vault (11-0) and Lance McPherson was fourth (11-0). For the Raiders, Logan Reames won the pole vault with a height of 12-0. The 3200 relay team of Tyler Ahle, Derek McMillen, Logan Leis and Jordan Penhorwood took sixth (9:02.86) and Aaron Blakely was seventh in the long jump (18-10 3/4). Bellefontaine saw Chris Lowe place third in the long jump (20-6) and Trevor Ward finish fifth in the pole vault (11-0). Leading the girls meet was Bellefontaine’s Tomika Brown, who won the high jump (5-2) with Dominique Brown placing eighth (4- 6). Also for BHS, Kylee Moon was fifth in the shot put (31-1 1/4) and the 3200 relay team of Brittany Smalley, Lauren Rutledge, Alyssa Elliott and Abby Tassell was fifth (10:30.75). For the Lakers, the 3200 relay of Sarah Zbacnik, Taylor Norviel, Casey Craft and Rachel Watt placed third (10:13.03), Katie Harvey took fourth in the shot put (31-9) and Lynsey Shepard was sixth (30-5). Ben Logan had two placers in the high jump. Brianne Britton was seventh (4-8) and Jordan Millsap was eighth (4-6). The 3200 relay team of Stephanie Dahl-Jensen, Terryn Forsythe, Cayla Orr and Lynn Holden added a sixth-place finish (10:45.5). The Chieftain boys qualified the most finalists for Saturday with nine. Jeff Rollins holds the fastest qualifying times in the 110 hurdles (16.3) and the 300 hurdles (41.02), Sean Egler holds the fastest time in the 400 (51.39) and also qualified in the 100 and 200. Other finalists for BHS were Keith Morgan in the 100, Brett Meadows in the 300 hurdles, Lowe in the 200 and Cody Sigrist in the 110 hurdles. Finalists for the Lakers included Alex Contner in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Andy Keller in the 110 hurdles and Jones and Isaac Reichert in the 400. Ben Logan qualified Cory Phalen in the 100, Kyle VanDyke in the 110 hurdles and Ross Barnes and Tyler Codora in the 400. The girls finalists were led by the Chiefs’ Tomika Brown who holds the fastest time in the 100 hurdles with 15.34. She also qualified in the 200. Other finalists for BHS were Dominique Brown in the 100 hurdles, Danielle Hill in the 100, Alyssa Elliott in the 400 and Kea Lewis in the 200. The Lakers qualified Brianna Lump in the 100 hurdles, Katey Headley in the 100, Casey Craft and Sara Tevis in the 400 and Lump and Robyn Zwiebel in the 300 hurdles. The Raiders sent Keri Stafford to the finals in the 100 hurdles and the 100.
