Benjamin Logan’s softball team took advantage of its scoring opportunities Tuesday to knock off visiting Graham 4-2 in a Division II sectional tournament opener.

The Raiders are now 10-13 and advance to play at Northwestern on Thursday.

“They walked us five times and we were able to move the girls around on the bases,” said Ben Logan head coach Ron Smith. “It was kind of the same thing we’ve had all year. We played good defense and the pitching was good, but we just didn’t hit the ball very well.”

Caroline Lehmon had a triple to lead the Raiders’ hitting attack.

Bryttanie Williams picked up the win in the pitching circle for the Raiders.

Ben Logan jumped out with two runs in the first inning and scored another run in the third for a 3-0 lead.

Both teams scored a run in the fourth and Graham scored a run in the fifth to make it a 4-2 score.

The Raiders then held on the rest of the way to get the win. The Raiders now hope to avenge a pair of 1-0 losses to Northwestern during the regular season.

Ryan throws perfect game in Triad’s tourney win

Triad junior Morgan Ryan fired a perfect game Tuesday as the host Cardinals routed Mississinawa Valley 17-0 in five innings in a Division IV sectional softball tournament opener.

The Cardinals (14-9) advance to play Ft. Loramie at home Thursday in a sectional semifinal.

Ryan struck out 14 of the 15 batters she faced.

“Morgan threw the ball very well,” said Triad head coach Shari Dixon. “She hit her targets well.”

Triad set the tone with 10 runs in the first inning.

“We were smart on the bases and were able to do some things we have not done,” said Dixon.

Amber Herron was 2-4 with a home run and four RBI to spearhead the Triad offense. Erika Graves had a triple and five RBI and Ryan added a double.

REGULAR SEASON
Lakers slip to Red Devils in regular-season finale

Indian Lake had an outright league title in its sights Tuesday, but it was not meant to be as the host Lakers fell to Tippecanoe 3-0 in a Central Buckeye Conference game.

The Lakers finish the regular season at 20-4 overall and 13-3 in the CBC Mad River division. The 13-3 league mark gives the Lakers a coleague title with Northwestern.

“I know the girls wanted to win this game and claim the Mad River division out right, but still claiming a share of the title and being the first CBC title for softball at Indian Lake is something for them to be proud of,” said Indian Lake head coach Scott Cramer. “Even though we lost, we will take some things from this game to build on going into our tournament game Thursday.”

Indian Lake had only two hits against the Red Devils. They came from Chelsea Cramer and Michelle Herren.

“It was just one of those nights,” said Cramer. “We could not get anything going against a good Tippecanoe team.”

Jill Wildermuth struck out nine and scattered five hits in the pitching circle for the Lakers.

Indian Lake begins Division II sectional tournament play Thursday at home against Springfield Shawnee.
