Riverside pulled out a 7-6 win in the bottom of the seventh inning against visiting Jackson Center on Tuesday in first-round Division IV sectional baseball tournament action.

The Pirates travel to Covington on Thursday to face the second-seeded Buccs (15-8) in a sectional semifinal game.

With the score tied 6-6, the Pirates’ Kyle Ehresman hit a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Riverside the win.

Jackson Center led 5-1 after the top of the fifth inning, but Riverside came alive in the bottom of the frame. The Pirates plated four runs to take a 6-5 lead.

The Tigers added a run in the top of the sixth to tie the game, but Ehresman’s two-out RBI single in the seventh saved the day for RHS.

Offensively, Jonathan Miller went 2-4 with two doubles, Drew Dixon went 3-4 with two doubles and Ehresman went 2- 4 with two RBI to lead the way for the Pirates.

Aaron Moffit earned the win on the mound. He had four strikeouts and allowed three earned runs. He is now 7-3 on the season.

Riverside head coach Jason McLain knows his team faces a challenge in the next round.

“We play a very good Covington team on Thursday,” said McLain. “They are solid all-around so we will have to play very well to beat them.”
