Bellefontaine’s boys tennis team wrapped up the regular season in fine fashion Monday with a 5-0 victory over visiting Stebbins in Central Buckeye Conference action.

The Chiefs finish at 12-7 overall and 11-5 in the league, which is good for third place.

“With Tipp City being really strong, we felt coming into the season it would basically be a race for second place,” said BHS head coach Jim Stein. “We had some close losses and came up a little short of second, but I feel we’ve had a pretty successful season.”

In preparation for Thursday’s sectional tournament, the Chiefs used their tournament lineup against Stebbins. Rob Stahler dropped from third singles to second doubles to team with Christian Garlock, while Kraig Strayer moved from second doubles to third singles.

Bellefontaine’s Rob Ball, Rahul Prasad and Strayer breezed through their singles matches.

Ball won 6-0, 6-0 over Jesse Beal at first singles, Prasad prevailed 6-1, 6-0 over Josh Glick at second singles and Strayer took a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jimmy Prater at third singles.

“Kraig did a nice job making that transition to singles,” said Stein.

Bellefontaine’s first doubles team of Connor Dunn and Andy Marshall defeated Andrew Haas and David Munroe 6-3, 6-3.

“That was a nice win for first doubles,” said Stein. “Stebbins moved their top two singles players to first doubles. Both of those guys are good players.”

In the second doubles match, Stahler and Garlock rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Alan Gordon and Brandon Hines.

Bellefontaine enters sectional play Thursday at Troy.
