Indian Lake’s softball team picked up its 20th win of the season Monday, and in the process, the Lakers clinched a share of the Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division title.

The Lakers defeated host Springfield Shawnee 4-1 in a CBC game to improve to 20-3 overall and 13-2 in the league.

Indian Lake has a one-game lead over Northwestern in the CBC Mad River with one game to play. With a win today at home against Tippecanoe, the Lakers can clinch an outright league title.

“It was good to see the girls come out and hit the ball since we have not played since last week,” said Indian Lake head coach Scott Cramer.

Both teams hit the ball as Shawnee had 11 hits and the Lakers had 10 hits. However, the Lakers did a better job of taking advantage of their scoring opportunities.

Indian Lake scored twice in the third inning and took a 4-0 lead with two runs in the top of the fifth. Shawnee scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth.

Jill Wildermuth struck out 11 and did not walk a batter to get the win in the pitching circle for the Lakers. Wildermuth is now 19-3 on the season.

Michelle Herren went 4-4 with a double to lead the Indian Lake offense. Chelsea Cramer had two hits and three RBI and Wildermuth had two hits and an RBI.

Emily Kauffman continued her dominating pitching for the Tigers as she allowed just one hit. She struck out three and walked one.

Pirates edge Ft. Loramie

Riverside rallied to pull out a 4-3 win Monday against visiting Ft. Loramie in non-league softball action.

The Pirates finish the regular season with a 13-9 record.

Ft. Loramie led 3-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Pirates’ Sonya Yoder hit a one-out single to score two of the Pirates’ three runs in the frame. Yoder then had another one-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning to bring in the winning run.

“I was really proud of the girls for the way they rallied in the seventh inning to tie the game,” said RHS head coach Rod Yoder.

“We hit into some bad luck early in the game. “We didn’t play a good game defensively and gave them all three runs on errors.”

Yoder powered the offense with four hits and three RBI, Megan Hurley had three hits, Abby Heaberlin had two doubles and Sara Emerich added two hits.

Emerich also picked up the win in the pitching circle with four strikeouts and one walk.
