Ridgemont girls take first at quad-meet
05/12/08 Ridgemont’s girls track and field team won a quad-meet Friday, while Aaron Jolliff set a new school record in the 100 for the Gopher boys. The Gopher girls won the meet with 106 points. North Union took second (64.5), Fairlawn was third (49) and Marion Catholic was fourth (21.5). The boys meet saw North Union claim first with 103 points. Ridgemont’s boys finished second with 77 points, Fairlawn was third (46) and Marion Catholic was fourth (20). Ridgemont’s girls racked up several first-place finishes. The Gophers were led by the trio of Leslie Oliver, Samantha Smith and Malana Ledley. Oliver won the shot put (32- 8 1/2) and the discus (101-3), Smith won the 400 (1:06) and the 200 (28.8) and Ledley won the 100 hurdles (17.2) and the 300 hurdles (53.0). Other wins came from Taylor Gaukin in the 100 (13.3), a three-way tie in the pole vault with Kelsey Seiler, Hannah Watkins and Loretta Wiley (5-6), the 1600 relay of Gaukin, Seiler, Smith and Ledley (4:42) and the 3200 relay of Megan Grimes, Mai Kamiya, Selier and Michaela Grimes (12:36). Jolliff powered the Gopher boys’ efforts by setting a new school record in the 100 with a time of 11.56. He also won the long jump (19-0). Other firsts came from Devin Brown in the high jump (5-6) and the pole vault had a three-way tie with Sean Shonkwiler, Nathaniel Davis and Aaron Scott (6-6). Ridgemont is back in action Thursday in the prelims of the Northwest Central Conference tournament.
