Raiders take two from WL-Salem
05/12/08 Benjamin Logan’s baseball team recorded a pair of wins over host West Liberty-Salem in a doubleheader Saturday. Ben Logan won the opener 7-3 and then prevailed 7-4 in game two. The Raiders are now 15-7, while the Tigers fall to 19-5. “The guys are continuing to play solid defense,” said Ben Logan head coach Doug Rutan.“We did not have an error in either game, so I was pleased to see that. “Offensively, we made good, solid contact. We had a lot of guys hit the ball well.” In the opener, Trent Kuhn was 3-4 with a home run and two RBI to power the Raiders’ attack. Lee Kerns was 2-5 and Jonathon Robson, Texas McCoy and Matt McKirahan each added a double for the winners. Cory Klinger pitched into the sixth inning to get the win on the mound for Ben Logan in game one. In game two, Jeremiah Kerns was 2-3 with a home run and two RBI to spark the Ben Logan offense. Shane James had a double, Kuhn was 2-4 and Nate Stierhoff was 2-4 with a double for the Raiders. Dustin Craig picked up the pitching win in relief. The two teams return to action today. The Raiders travel to Tippecanoe, while WL-Salem plays at home against Graham. GAME ONE GAME TWO Chiefs split with New Albany Host Bellefontaine fell to New Albany 12-0 in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday before the Chiefs rebounded to win game two 11-1 in five innings. The Chiefs are now 12-8 on the season, while New Albany is 15-9. Bellefontaine had just one hit — a single from Zach Mosbarger — in the opener. Meanwhile, New Albany collected 15 hits. The Chieftain offense broke loose for 14 hits in the second game, while Bellefontaine pitcher Josh Kauffman limited the Eagles to three hits. Brandon Winter was 2-2 with a double and home run to spark the Chieftain bats. Also having big games at the plate for Bellefontaine were Kauffman (3-4, double), Mosbarger (2-4), Brock Mitchell (2-3), Cody Mehl (2- 2, double) and Jace Mills (2-3). “The kids did a nice job of bouncing back in the second game,” said BHS head coach Mark Brunswick. “In the first game New Albany swung the bats well and put us on our heels. But our kids answered the challenge and stepped up in the second game.” Bellefontaine is back in action today at home against Greenon. GAME ONE GAME TWO Tipp City tops Lakers Visiting Tippecanoe defeated Indian Lake 12-1 in five innings Saturday in a baseball game that was a makeup from a contest that was rained out last week. The Lakers fall to 12-9 overall and 6-8 in the CBC. Troy Thieman had the lone hit for Indian Lake. The Lakers play today at Springfield Shawnee. TIPP CITY 12 — INDIAN LAKE 1 (five innings)
Ridgemont falls in tourney action Ridgemont’s baseball team was knocked out of the post-season Saturday with a 15-0 five-inning loss against Allen East at Perry High School. The Gophers managed just one hit, while they were plagued by six errors in the field. Allen East finished with six hits. ALLEN EAST 15 — RIDGEMONT 0 (five innings)
