Lakers’ Krouse to play football at Bluffton
05/08/08 Indian Lake’s Russell Krouse was not ready to stop playing football when his senior season ended last October. The two-year starter for Indian Lake’s offensive line has since decided to continue playing football at Bluffton University. “I heard about it from their (new head) coach Tyson Veidt,” said Krouse. “I went and saw their campus and it was amazing. Coach Veidt called me two or three times a week just to talk. He is a very personable guy.” Indian Lake head coach Dave Coburn felt Krouse was peaking at the end of his senior season and that gave him motivation to pursue a collegiate career. “He was playing his best football at the end of the year,” said Coburn. “I think that persuaded him a little to go to college. Having such a good year helped him keep pursuing the sport. We are real excited for him.” A strong student and football player, Krouse has already set goals for himself next season. “In the classroom, I want to keep my grades up. On the field I’d like to start as a freshman. That is my number one goal.” Krouse, who also considered Defiance College, helped block for a Laker offense that rushed for more than1,500 yards last season. His strong work ethic is another area Coburn thinks the coaching staff at Bluffton will take notice of. “He is a hard worker and one of our best weight room performers,” said Coburn. “I haven’t had a better athlete in my career when it comes to technique in the weight room and power cleans. He is going to impress the coaches with his work ethic.” “I’m not the biggest guy for an offensive lineman,” said Krouse. “I’m only 240 pounds now, but I’m a good technician and that helps a lot. I know a lot of different techniques and understand different blocking schemes.” The Beavers recently hired Veidt, who formerly served as a graduate assistant coach under current Michigan head coach Rich Rodriguez.
