Chieftain netters blank Warriors in CBC action

Bellefontaine’s boys tennis team barely had to work up a sweat Tuesday as the Chiefs dominated visiting Northwestern 5-0 in a Central Buckeye Conference match.

The Chiefs improve to 11-7 overall and 10-5 in the CBC.

Bellefontaine won all five matches in straight sets.

“We thought this would be a nail-biter, but they had some guys missing,” said BHS head coach Jim Stein. “It was a great day to play, though, and it was nice to be at home.”

Bellefontaine lost only two games in the three singles matches.

The Chiefs’ Rob Ball won 6-0, 6-0 over Trevor Williams at first singles, Bellefontaine’s Rob Stahler took a 6-1, 6-0 decision from Paul Tucker at second singles and Rahul Prasad defeated the Warriors’ John Franzen 6-0, 6-1 at third singles.

“It was good to see Rahul get back on the winning track,” said Stein. “He has had a couple of close sets get away from him lately. This was a good confidence builder for him.”

Bellefontaine’s first doubles team of Connor Dunn and Andy Marshall won 7-5, 6-3 over Mitch Wolfarth and Craig Armstrong, while the Chiefs’ second doubles team of Kraig Strayer and Christian Garlock won 6-0, 6-3 over Chad Anderson and Kile Smith.

In reserve singles matches, Bellefontaine’s Nick Rhodes won 6-0, Taylor Allison prevailed 6-1 and Anthony Hawkins won 6-3.

In reserve doubles matches, the Chiefs’ Andrew Pever and Aaron Morris won 6-0, D.J. Rostorfer and Ian Beale fell 6- 4 and Ethan Lucas and Michael Bull won 6-2.

The Chiefs wrap up the regular season Thursday at home against Stebbins.
