Chieftains win tri-meet with Indian Lake, Tecumseh

Bellefontaine’s boys and girls track and field teams battled past visiting Indian Lake and Tecumseh on Tuesday in a tri-meet at Dodd Stadium.

The Chieftain boys edged the Lakers 78-74 to take first, while the Arrows were third with 23 points.

The girls meet saw BHS win with 71 points. Indian Lake was second with 61 and Tecumseh placed third with 40.

Bellefontaine’s boys were powered by Sean Egler and Blake Price, who combined to win six events. Egler won the 100 (11.0) and was part of three winning relays, while Price won the 3200 (10:50.6) and the 1600 (4:47.5).

Winning relay teams for BHS included the 400 relay of Brett Meadows, Jeff Rollins, Keith Morgan and Egler (44.1), the 800 relay of Chris Lowe, Rollins, Morgan and Egler (1:30.8) and the 1600 relay of Lowe, Meadows, Rollins and Egler (3:30.9).

Other first-place finishes for Bellefontaine came from Rollins in the 110 hurdles (15.0), Zack Vermillion in the shot put (49-6) and Morgan in the 200 (23.0).

Tomika Brown was a force for the Chieftain girls as she recorded four first-place finishes. She won the high jump (5-4), the 200 (27.5), the 100 hurdles (15.2) and was part of the winning 400 relay along with Haley McCloud, Kea Lewis and Danielle Hill (51.9).

Other firsts for BHS included Lewis in the long jump (15- 0 1/2), Hill in the 100 (13.6) and Dominique Brown in the 300 hurdles (52.5).

Indian Lake’s boys team saw Stacy Jones win two events. The junior claimed the top spot in the long jump (21-9) and the 400 (53.1).

Adding wins for Indian Lake were Isaac Reichert in the high jump (6-0), Thomas Taylor in the discus (137-9), Alex Contner in the 300 hurdles (41.8) and Kyle Hefner in the pole vault (11-0).

The Laker girls were anchored by its three winning relay teams. Coming in first were the 800 relay of Sara Tevis, Laura Blust, Katey Headley and Katelyn Stannard (1:53.7), the 1600 relay of Tevis, Blust, Casey Craft and Rachel Watt (4:21.5) and the 3200 relay of Sarah Zbacnik, Taylor Norviel, Craft and Watt (10:23).

Other wins came from Craft in the 400 (63.7), Katie Harvey in the shot put (31-9) and Lynsey Shepard in the discus (110-11).

Indian Lake hosts Waynesfield-Goshen on Thursday and Bellefontaine competes Friday at West Liberty-Salem in the King Classic.

Tigers take second at Graham

West Liberty-Salem’s boys and girls track and field teams each finished second at a six-team meet Tuesday at Graham.

The Tiger girls had 108.8 points, while the boys were second with 118 points.

Miami East won the girls meet with 125.3 points, Graham took third (107) and Greenville finished fourth (98.5). The boys race saw Greenville win with 147 points. Graham placed third (108) and Miami East took fourth (70).

Courtney Karg helped fuel the WL-Salem girls with three first-place efforts. She won the 400 (1:04.5) and was on the winning 3200 relay along with Hannah Hartsel, Kelsie Markin and Sarah Murphy (10:36.6) and the top 1600 relay with Heather Bumbalough, Hartsel and Kaycee Daniels (4:25.7).

Michelle Mack added the final first-place finish in the 200 with a time of 28.9.

Second-place finishes came from Bumbalough in the 300 hurdles (50.0), Mack in the 100 (13.9), Chris Edwards in the 3200 (14:27.3), Sarah Naderer in the high jump (4-8), Kelsey Oakley in the shot put (32-6), Hannah Ropp in the pole vault (8-6) and the 800 relay of Emily Evans, Bumbalough, Karg and Mack (1:55.5).

The duo of Joe Yoder and Nate Bratka powered the Tiger boys with both athletes winning two events. Yoder won the 110 hurdles (17.01) and the high jump (6-0), while Bratka won the discus (148-2) and the shot put (43-10 1/2).

Also coming in first were Lance Kitchen in the 300 hurdles (42.4) and the 400 relay team of Brice Baumgardner, Seth Baker, Kitchen and Jake Anderson (46.8).

Second-place efforts came from Kitchen in the 110 hurdles (17.1) and the 1600 relay of Baker, Bratka, John Krabill and Austin Wilson (3:40.8).

WL-Salem hosts the King Classic on Friday.

Ridgemont girls take second at Hardin County Meet

Leslie Oliver and Malana Ledley powered the Ridgemont girls track and field team to a second-place finish Monday at the Hardin County meet.

The Gopher girls were second with 98 points, while Riverdale won the meet with 183 points. The boys meet saw Kenton take the top spot with 169 points and Riverdale finish second with 112 5/6 points. Ridgemont’s boys were fifth with 48 1/3.

Oliver finished second in the discus (102-5) and the shot put (33-3), while Ledley was second in the 300 hurdles (50.0) and the 100 hurdles (17.5) to lead the girls efforts.

Other runner-up finishes for the Gophers included Taylor Gaukin in the 100 (13.5), Samantha Smith in the 400 (1:03.7) and the 1600 relay of Gaukin, Kelsey Seiler, Smith and Ledley (4:28.5).

The Ridgemont boys were led by Aaron Jolliff, who was second in the long jump (19-3 1/4), third in the 100 (11.9) and third in the 400 relay along with Kyle Stahler, Jake McFadden and Devin Brown (47.3).

Also for the Gophers, Brown tied for second in the high jump (5-4) and McFadden was third in the 200 (24.5).

Ridgemont is back in action Thursday when it travels to Riverside for a tri-meet.
