A determined Kenton Ridge team rebounded from Monday’s loss to Bellefontaine with a 5-0 victory over the host Chiefs on Tuesday in Central Buckeye Conference softball action.

The Chiefs fall to 14-8 overall and 8-6 in the CBC, while Kenton Ridge improves to 15-6, 10-4.

Both teams had five hits on the day, but the difference was the defense. Bellefontaine had three errors, while Kenton Ridge did not commit an error.

“We made some mistakes and they were able to take advantage of them,” said Bellefontaine head coach Jeremiah Vigansky. “Hopefully, we are able to tighten things up and bounce back from this.”

The Cougars scored three runs in the second inning and then added two more in the fifth.

Charity Chandler had a double to lead Bellefontaine at the plate.

The Chiefs return to action Thursday at Urbana.

Lakers keep pace in league race

Indian Lake’s softball team kept a league title in sight Tuesday with a 10-0 six-inning win over visiting Greenon in Central Buckeye Conference action.

The Lakers are tied with Northwestern atop the CBC Mad River standings with 12-2 records. There are two league games remaining. Indian Lake is now 19-3 overall.

“The girls played a solid all-around game,” said Indian Lake head coach Scott Cramer. “We were solid defensively behind another outstanding outing by Jill Wildermuth.”

Wildermuth struck out 11 and gave up just one hit a night after throwing a perfect game against the Knights.

Offensively, Wildermuth had two hits and Jessica Lininger and Julianne Minnich each had two hits to lead the Lakers.

Riverside shuts down Fairlawn

Host Riverside thumped Fairlawn 10-0 in six innings Tuesday in a non-league softball game.

The Pirates improve to 12-7.

Riverside scored two runs in the second inning and then exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to take control.

“It took us awhile to get going offensively,” said Riverside head coach Rod Yoder. “Fortunately, Sara (Emerich) pitched well and our defense did a great job.

“We are just trying to get better every day for the sectional tournament. I am very happy with the way Sara is throwing the ball and how well we are playing defense.”

Emerich scattered three hits and struck out eight in getting the shutout.

Offensively, Megan Hurley had a single and double, Abby Heaberlin had two hits and Emerich had two RBI to lead the Pirates.
