Chiefs gain revenge over Kenton Ridge
05/07/08 Bellefontaine’s baseball team rebounded from Monday’s 9-7 loss to Kenton Ridge with a 5-3 win over the Cougars in the rematch Tuesday at Blue Jacket Park. The win improves the Chiefs to 11-7 overall and 8-6 in the CBC, while the Cougars slip to 14-5, 10-4. “I am happy for the guys,” said Bellefontaine head coach Mark Brunswick. “This is a nice win for them. Hopefully they can use this as a springboard for future games.” Kenton Ridge took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Bellefontaine jumped ahead with a three-run second frame. After the Cougars tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, the Chiefs responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. “We were able to execute a couple things offensively and we were able to manufacture some runs,” said Brunswick. Josh Kauffman was 2-4 with a double and T.J. Garman had two hits to pace the Chieftain hitting attack. Mark Duffy chipped in with a double. Brandon Winter got the win on the mound. He pitched into the seventh inning. Nolan Hunt came on in the seventh to get the win. “Brandon really battled and he kept us in the ballgame,” said Brunswick. “Nolan then came in and was able to get the save.” Bellefontaine returns to action today in a non-league game at home against West Liberty-Salem.
