Riverside’s Zumberger to play volleyball at Columbus State

MORGAN ZUMBERGER

Riverside’s Morgan Zumberger was born to play volleyball. From a young age, the Pirate standout has wanted to compete at the next level and she will do just that.

Zumberger recently signed with Columbus State Community College to continue her volleyball career.

“I’ve always wanted to play volleyball in college,” said Zumberger. “It is great that I am getting the chance to do that. The fact that they are paying for my education helps, too.”

The Cougars recently joined the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, which allows the team to offer scholarships. CSCC head coach Scott Nichols has used that resource to attract new talents like Zumberger. She is set to play libero for the Cougars.

The Pirate star has been a Northwest Central Conference first-team selection the past two seasons, earned District 9 second-team honors as a senior and helped RHS to a league title in 2006.

Only 5-2, Zumberger makes up for her height with heart and determination on the court. Riverside head coach Brooxie Crouch knows Zumberger has been a major asset to her squad.

“Morgan is a very well rounded player for only being 5-2,” said Crouch. “She is a great volleyball player and will be greatly missed on our court next year. She has played outside hitter for years and has been the libero for Team Atlantis (a travel team). She is also a great setter.”

Zumberger believes her overall athleticism will give her an edge at Columbus State.

“I want to start on varsity as a freshman and do the best I can,” said Zumberger. “I think I can contribute a lot to their team. My passing skills, vision and athleticism will help me. I am very competitive, too, so I think that will help me there.

“I also want to get good grades and want to be keep them up all year.”

Zumberger also considered Capital University and Thomas-Moore College. Her sister Jenna plays volleyball at Capital.
