Lakers can’t stay with Wapakoneta

Indian Lake’s boys soccer team could not get on track Saturday as host Wapakoneta grabbed an 8-3 non-league victory.

The Lakers slide to 3-2 on the season, while the Redskins remain unbeaten at 3-0.

Wapakoneta jumped out to a 6-1 lead by halftime. Indian Lake's Nikolas Vance scored the Lakers’ lone first-half goal off an assist from Santiago Costa.

“We got on the score board first with some solid passing and possessed quite well the first 10 minutes,” said Indian Lake head coach Jon Shoffstall. “However, we struggled to control tempo after that and our defense felt quite a bit of pressure in the first half. The possession was almost 50-50 the first half.”

In the seond half, the Redskins continued to build on their lead by adding two more goals. Indian Lake’s Vance scored two more times in the second half with Costa and Parker Grothaus adding assists, but it was not enough to catch Wapak.

Defensively, Tyler Rode recorded 11 saves in goal.
