WL-Salem takes second at Ryan Reynolds tourney

Sims fires school-record round of 66 to lead Tigers

A fifth-score tiebreaker was the difference Thursday as Liberty Benton edged West Liberty-Salem’s boys golf team to win the Ryan Reynolds Invitational at Liberty Hills Golf Course.

The Tigers and Eagles each finished with a 312 for the tournament, but the Eagles’ fifth golfer had a better score than the Tigers’ fifth score.

WL-Salem was powered by a sensational round from senior Nick Sims, who earned medalist honors and broke a school record with a 4-under-par 66.

Bellefontaine was not far behind in third place with a score of 320. Springfield Shawnee was three strokes back in fourth with 323, Benjamin Logan was fifth with 325 and Kenton was sixth with 329. 

Jonathan Alder came in seventh with 334, Tecumseh was eighth with 348, Bellefontaine’s junior varsity team was ninth with 380, Indian Lake took 10th with 408, Riverside was 11th with 419 and Ben Logan’s junior varsity squad was 12th with 439.
