West Liberty-Salem’s boys golf team opened its season by competing in the Warrior-Jaguar Invitational Thursday at Northstar Golf Resort, which is one of the courses used for the OHSAA state golf tournament.
Wellington won the 12-team tournament on a tiebreaker over Columbus Academy, while Garaway fired a 315 and Ottawa Hills took fourth with 320. The Tigers came in eighth with 332.
“Many of the teams in the field will end up playing at the state tournament, so the experience will help us grow,” said WL-Salem head coach Darrin Leichty. “As a team, we definitely didn’t bring our best, but we have two months to get things fixed. We have to putt better on larger greens.”
WL-Salem’s play was led by Ethan McBean, who carded a team low of 75.
“Ethan struck the ball very well as he tied for seventh overall,” said Leichty.
Also for the Tigers, Nick Sims carded an 82, Kannon Stillings shot an 84, Dillon Callicoat recorded a 91 and Logan Brown added a 97.
