Lauren Carter claimed two individual state titles as she led the Bellefontaine Parks & Recreation youth track and field team Saturday at the Hershey state meet in Reynoldsburg.
Carter, who competed in the girls 11-12 age group, won the 100 in a time of 14.14 and won the softball toss with a throw of 88-2. Carter also finished second in the 400 with a time of 65.60.
“Lauren is a very powerful runner both in athletic ability and in her spirit,” said coach Janet Dunn.
Saturday’s meet capped a successful summer for the local athletes.
“This year we had 125 kids sign up which could have been overwhelming, but we had very cooperative kids and helpful parents,” said Dunn. “We also had 10 youth leaders as coaches who really brought this program together. We had a great day with the kids doing their best. It will be exciting to watch these kids over the next few years as they continue to reach their potential.”
