COLUMBUS — The determination and talent Jazmyn Haley displayed to reach the Division II girls discus competition was nothing short of astounding.

The Bellefontaine senior came up short of reaching the podium here Friday, though, after finishing ninth with a toss of 120-1.

The top eight finishers placed and took a spot on the podium.

“It was nerve-wracking out there,” said Haley, who played softball as her primary spring sport and practiced throwing on a limited basis. “I was kind of nervous. Everyone was throwing within inches of each other.

“It was still a good experience. My first throw was good, but after that my form fell apart and I didn’t do so well.”
