Knights blank Chieftain netters 5-0 in CBC matchup


Greenon’s boys tennis team handled visiting Bellefontaine 5-0 in a Central Buckeye Conference match on Tuesday.

The Chieftains drop their record to 2-12 on the season.

First singles action saw Greenon’s Josh Remmetter down Bellefontaine’s Tyler Frantz 6-1, 7-5, while the Knight’s Austin Porter beat the Chiefs’ Adam Verbsky 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. Greenon’s Ryan Dewey defeated Bellefontaine’s Derek Markley 6-2, 6-2 at third singles.

At first doubles, Greenon’s Kyle Burkholder and Doug McHenry beat the Chiefs’ Max Wilcoxon and Mason Bailey 6-0, 6-1. The Knights’ Drake Pensworth and Aaron Smith topped the Chiefs’ Min Lin and Dean Smith 6-1, 6-2 at second doubles.

In junior varsity action, Bellefontaine’s Josh Kruetzer earned a singles win 6-2. The Chieftains’ Alex German and Michael Coakley lost 6-4 in a doubles match and teammates Kruetzer and Marshall Verbsky lost 6-1 in doubles action.

Bellefontaine hosts Springfield Catholic Central today.
