Logan County wrestling squads form off-season club

Sports like baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball offer off-season leagues for prep athletes to stay sharp.

For local wrestlers, however, there has been a void for opportunities to compete outside the school wrestling season.

That is no longer the case as four area teams have come together to form the Hammer Wrestling Club. The club is devoted to doing weekly workouts and will eventually compete in matches against other clubs.

“We are constantly looking at ways to improve in the off-season,” said Bellefontaine head wrestling coach Rick Reed, who took his idea of forming a local club to his fellow county coaches. “Our guys don’t historically go out and find off-season wrestling programs, so we have to create opportunities here in Bellefontaine.”
