Impressive pitching and timely hitting helped Riverside’s softball squad squeeze out a 2-1 win over visiting Upper Scioto Valley on Monday in Northwest Central Conference action.

The Pirates are now 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the NWCC.
Senior Christyn Wietholter gave a commanding performance in the pitching circle. She fired a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and only one walk.
USV took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but Riverside was able to tie the game with a run in the bottom of the third inning to make the score 1-1.
The Pirates then plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 2-1 edge and were able to hang on the rest of the way.
For Riverside at the plate, Chelsea Giles went 2-3 with a triple, Lauryn Davis and Wietholter had a double with Madison Manahan and Taylor Nichols each added an RBI.
