Bellefontaine took a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but WL-Salem drove in three runs in the top of the third inning and three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
The Chiefs added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to trail 6-3, but the Tigers pulled away with two runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-3 advantage.
WL-Salem added another run in the top of the sixth inning for a 9-3 lead. The Chieftains made one final attempt to rally with a three-run seventh inning, but came up short.
“I am proud of the girls that they never gave up and battled till the end,” said BHS head coach Katie Buffkin. “This is a game to learn from and move on as we look to continue league play (today) against Springfield Shawnee.”
