West Liberty-Salem’s boys and girls track and field teams battled a strong field at the Anna Rocket Invitational on Saturday and both squads came away with fourth-place finishes.
State power Minster dominated both meets, with the boys team winning with 162 points. Anna came in second with 93 points, New Bremen was third with 73 points, while the Tigers and Lehman Catholic tied for fourth with 62 points.
The Minster girls won by 100 points in their team race, topping second-place Russia 198-98. Botkins finished third with 66.5 points and the Tigers were fourth with 58 points.
“We were missing several athletes because of ACT testing, so I was pleased with our team placing,” said WL-Salem girls head coach Ann Vogel. “We got a taste of what the competition will be like in the postseason, and hopefully this will provide the girls some motivation to improve their efforts at practice and during competition in the next few weeks.”
Leading the WL-Salem girls with runner-up finishes were the 400 relay of Michaela Rausch, Ashley Rabenstein, Abigail Rabenstein and Morgan Freyhof (54.2) and Freyhof in the 100 (12.9).
