Bellefontaine’s boys tennis team was defeated by visiting Wapakoneta 5-0 in a non-league tennis match Wednesday.
The Chiefs fall to 0-3 on the season.
“Although not reflective in the final score, our team is gaining in confidence,” said Bellefontaine coach James Howell. “Our doubles team lost two very hard-fought three-set matches. Freshmen Min Lin and Mason Bailey battled for nearly three hours in their three-setter. It is great to see both doubles teams communicating like they have been playing together a long time, when in fact it has only been a couple of matches.”
Bellefontaine’s first doubles team of Max Wilcoxon and Isaiah Brady were defeated 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 by Alex Stinebaugh and Andrew Gibson.
The Redskins’ Marcos Campos and Bryce Schlenker outlasted Bailey and Lin 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 at second doubles.
Wapakoneta took the three singles matches in straight sets. Drew Wayman beat Bellefontaine’s Tyler Frantz 6-2, 6-1 at first singles, Jordan Dodds defeated the Chiefs’ Adam Verbsky 6-1, 6-2 at second singles and the Redskins’ Joe Pitts won 6-1, 6-0 over Dean Smith at third singles.
In junior varsity doubles action, Bellefontaine’s Derek Markley and Alex German lost 8-3 to Seth Bowers and Gage Moore. The Chiefs’ Josh Kruetzer and Michael Coakley dropped a 6-0 decision to Bowers and Moore.
Bellefontaine is in action again tonight at home against Northwestern.
