Christian Grider heard from numerous NCAA Division II, III and NAIA college basketball programs over the last couple of years. In the end, he was most intrigued by the rebuilding project going on at Goshen College.
Grider, a standout 6-5 guard/forward from Indian Lake, signed with the Maple Leafs on Monday.
Located in Goshen, Ind., the Maple Leafs compete at the NAIA level.
“When I visited the campus, I met with the coaches and I really liked their philosophy,” said Grider. “Coach (Neal) Young is a new coach and they have a young team. They have a bright future as a program, and I felt like I could be a big part of it.”
Young recently finished up his first season at Goshen. His team won just five games, but he is doing a complete overhaul of the program.
“We are going to be playing a lot of young guys next season,” said Young. “The best way to get better is to play. We expect Christian to have an immediate impact. He is definitely good enough to do that. If he continues to put the work in, he is going to see a lot of time for us.”
