SIDNEY — Riverside had the Houston Wildcats right where it wanted them. Then the second half happened.
A 35-point loser to Houston during the regular season, the Pirates trailed by only two points at halftime against the Wildcats on Saturday in a Division IV girls sectional tournament opener.
The final two quarters had a drastically different outcome.
Houston caught fire to outscore Riverside 33-8 over the last 16 minutes of the game to cruise to a 49-22 victory.
“I applaud the effort of our girls,” said first-year Riverside coach Corey Britton. “We lost by 35 points to them two weeks ago. We never had a chance. Today, we were right there after two quarters.”
