Indians outlast Tigers for first OHC crown

Mechanicsburg’s boys basketball team secured its first ever Ohio Heritage Conference championship Friday with a 70- 62 double overtime win against host West Liberty-Salem.

The Indians are now 11-1 in the OHC and 15-3 overall. It is their first conference title since the 1999-2000 season when they were in the West Central Ohio Conference.

The win also completes a season sweep of the Tigers for the Indians after a 53-40 victory earlier this season.

Regulation ended in a 59-59 tie and both teams gave a 3-3 effort in the first overtime. M’burg grabbed control in the second overtime with an 8-0 run to get the win.

WL-Salem started the game in control with an 18-7 run in the first quarter. Mechanicsburg responded with a 15-8 spurt in the second quarter to trail 26-22 at halftime.
