HITTING THE MAT: The beginning of the end

aaron hittingmat

I felt the weight lift off my shoulders Thursday afternoon as I completed a season’s worth of wrestling research.

For three months, I’ve compiled, analyzed and thoroughly went over half of Ohio wrestling in Division II for my LaBatt Report. And it all comes down to today and tomorrow as the start of the postseason begins with the sectional tournament.

Our three area Division II teams will wrestle at Tippecanoe High School, but they will be competing in two different sectionals.

Indian Lake will compete in Tippecanoe 1 that qualifies out to the Wilmington district, while Bellefontaine and Benjamin Logan will compete in Tippecanoe 2 that sends kids to the Bowling Green district. The top four in each weight class advance.

Wrestling starts today at 4 p.m. and resumes at 9 a.m. tomorrow. The sectional finals are scheduled to start at approximately 4 p.m.

LaBatt Report

The 11th edition of my LaBatt Report was released Thursday afternoon and forecasts the district scene for Southwest and Northwest Ohio in Division II. That includes our area teams of Bellefontaine, Ben Logan and Indian Lake.

It can be found at http://alabatt.webs.com/LABATT REPORT 2013-14.pdf. It is nearly 40 pages this year.

I have Indian Lake qualifying 10 wrestlers to the Wilmington district. For Bellefontaine, I have seven qualifiers going to the Bowling Green district and Ben Logan with three qualifiers to the same district.

The Lakers could have an impressive showing at the district tournament. I have them advancing three wrestlers to the state tournament and several others who could either place or win matches. They have consistently been a top 10 team for the past decade.
