Triad’s wrestling team placed three wrestlers at the Lima Central Catholic Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday.
The tournament is often considered a measuring stick for those attempting to qualify for the Division III state tournament. The Cardinals finished 14th out of 40 teams with 76 points.
Archbold won the Thunderbird Invite by edging Covington 186-185.5. St. Paul was third with 150 points and Mechanicsburg took fourth with 144 points.
Damian Boldman (152) and Rickey Bruce (182) both finished third for Triad, while Jacob Thompson (160) came in fifth.
“Damian wrestled a great tournament,” said Triad head coach Matt Lawrence. “He showed a lot by winning some close decisions and often having to come from behind. He capped off the tournament with a last-second takedown to avenge his earlier loss against a very good wrestler.”
Boldman beat Daniel Jennings of Covington 8-7 in the finals to finish third and Bruce beat Will Selhorst of Columbus Grove 8-3 in the finals.
Thompson pinned Josh Bracy of Bluffton in 2:37 to finish fifth.
