Tigers roar back in second half to zap M’burg

A second-half surge helped propel West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team past visiting Mechanicsburg 47-45 on Thursday in an Ohio Heritage Conference contest.

The win improves the Tigers to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the OHC as the Indians fall to 4-5, 1-4.

M’burg held a 12-10 edge after the opening quarter and outscored WL-Salem 12-6 in the second quarter. That gave the Indians a 24-16 lead entering halftime.

The Tigers’ second-half comeback started in the third quarter with a 13-9 run, which pulled the home team to within four points at 33-29.

WL-Salem capped its rally in the fourth quarter. The Tigers outscored the Indians 18-12 in the period to pull out the victory.

Jamie Peterson powered the Tigers with 14 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and six blocks, while Sydney Eggleston added 14 points.

In junior varsity action, WL-Salem won 34-21 over M’burg. Ashley Holleron led the Tigers with 12 points.

WL-Salem travels to Cedarville on Saturday for another OHC matchup.
