Bellefontaine’s wrestling team battled in a tri-meet at Tipp City on Wednesday, but came up short going 0-2 against the host Red Devils and Mechanicsburg.
The Chieftains fell to the Indians 46-33 in the first dual and later fell to Tippecanoe 51-28. M’burg defeated the Red Devils 42-31 in the night’s other dual.
“We battled against Mechanicsburg,” said BHS head coach Rick Reed. “We just don’t have the horses for a dual with them.”
The Indians are one of the top five teams in Division III this season with two projected state champions.
Against Tippecanoe, though, Reed felt his squad missed a chance to beat the Red Devils.
“We had an opportunity to take a risk and move our lineup around against Tippecanoe,” said Reed. “We thought we could get some different matchups and give ourselves a chance to win the dual. In the end, I decided against moving our guys. I didn’t want to put our kids in bad spots, and then lose the dual regardless.
