M’burg pulls away in second half against WL-Salem

Mechanicsburg’s boys basketball team pulled away in the second half against host West Liberty-Salem for a 53-40 victory Friday in Ohio Heritage Conference action.

The Indians improve to 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the OHC. The Tigers fall to 4-6, 3-2.

M’burg took a 10-5 lead after the opening quarter, but WL-Salem rallied with a 16-9 run in the second quarter to jump in front 21-19 at halftime.

The Indians regained the momentum in the third period. They outscored the Tigers 17-11 to grab a 36-32 lead.

Mechanicsburg locked up the win in the fourth quarter with a 17-8 run.

Brandon Adams led WL-Salem’s efforts with 11 points and Trent Thomas tallied nine points.

In junior varsity action, Mechanicsburg pulled out a 45-42 victory. Austin Miller led the Tigers with 19 points.

WL-Salem plays at Benjamin Logan tonight.
