Ben Logan wins Spencerville Invitational

Benjamin Logan’s junior high wrestling team recently won the Spencerville Invitational. The Raiders placed 13 wrestlers out of 16 weight classes.

The Raiders piled up 325 points. Elida was second with 308 points, Lima Shawnee was third with 295 points and Van Wert was fourth with 226.5 points.

Winning their weight class for Ben Logan were Tyler Smith (80) and Mason Plikerd (142), while runner-up finishes came from Cole Houser (86) and Wes Oldaker (245).

Placing third were Christian Keller (92), Lane Griffin (104), Taylor Hites (134) and Danny Castle (150).

Taking fourth was Raiph LeVan (128), with fifth-place finishes coming from Holden Jones (110) and Jacob Creamer (122).

Rounding out the Raiders’ placers were Sammy Slavens (205) in seventh and Dylan Plikerd (98) in eighth.

Riverside competes at Elida, Triad

Riverside’s newly formed junior high wrestling team competed at the Elida Invitational on Dec. 28 and then at the Triad Invitational on Saturday.

The Pirates finished seventh at Triad out of nine teams. Caleb Stevens (150) took first, while Kayden Smith (205) and Jacob McKee (170) were both third.

At Elida, Stevens (150) won all four of his matches by pin and Johnathon McGill (160) won two matches by pin.


WL-Salem eight-graders top Anna

West Liberty-Salem’s eighth-grade girls basketball team defeated Anna 30-20 on Saturday in a non-league game.

The win improves the Tigers to 8-0 on the season.

Anna won the seventh-grade contest 32-11.

Kaylee Harrison had five points to lead WL-Salem and Peyton Kerns had four points.

Pirates split with Fairlawn

Riverside’s seventh-grade girls basketball team defeated Fairlawn 30-14 in a recent matchup.

Shelby Giles led the Pirates with 16 points.

The eighth-grade game saw the Jets top the Pirates 45-27. Payton Manahan led Riverside with 14 points.


WL-Salem squads fall to Anna

Anna’s middle school boys basketball teams recently defeated West Liberty-Salem in a pair of non-league games.

The Rockets won the eighth-grade game 46-43 and took the seventh-grade game 38-29.

James Loffing led the WL-Salem eighth-graders with 12 points and Max Eggleston had nine points.

For the seventh-grade Tigers, Desmond Glunt had 13 points.
