Technology has changed sports forever.
It has transformed how we watch sports, interpret sports and even play sports. From instant replay during live events to the growing capabilities we have at home, sports are far different than they were even just 10 years ago.
While social media has changed our perception of athletes, mostly in a negative light, other mediums like Twitter have been a Godsend.
High school wrestling has been one of the biggest benefactors. Prior to the Internet age it was almost impossible to find results from across the state.
Technology made forecasters like Brian Brakeman few and far between. He used to be the go-to source for wrestling information in Ohio, but now that same information is at the tip our fingers.
A lot of the big-time national wrestling tournaments have already taken place. I was able to get endless Ironman and Beast of the East Twitter updates as they happened. For enthusiasts like myself, it’s hard to imagine a world without a tool like Twitter.
Today and tomorrow serve up most of Ohio’s top holiday tournaments. The Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association tournament, the Medina Invitational, the Brecksville Invitational and the Marion Harding Classic, among others, are taking place across Ohio.
I’ll do my best to keep the updates coming for those interested on Twitter. You can follow me at @alabatt145
