Thursday’s qualifying round in the halfpipe at the Dew Tour at Breckenridge, Colo., claimed a lot of standout riders, but Bellefontaine native Louie Vito was able to battle through to earn a berth in the finals Saturday.
The top 16 riders after the two qualifying runs moved on to the finals.
Vito finished seventh in qualifying with a run of 77.40.
Shaun White was first with a 91.40, Christian Haller was second with a 90.20 and Ben Ferguson finished third with 85.60.
The Dew Tour is of extra importance this season as it will help determine the team of snowboarders who will represent the U.S. at the Sochi Olympics. This weekend’s event is the first of five Olympic qualifiers.
Vito is attempting to return to the Olympics after finishing fifth in 2010.
