BHS swim team sets records in home meet

Bellefontaine’s swim team opened its season at home Tuesday, recording several highlights in a meet against Botkins and Minster.

The girls squad broke two school records en route to a second-place finish, while the Chieftain boys won their side of the meet.

Minster tallied 103 points to finish first in the girls meet. The Chiefs had 72 points for their second-place effort. Botkins had 34 points. Ben Logan also had a couple of participants and scored 11 points.

Bellefontaine’s boys won with 75 points. Minster was next with 71 points and Botkins had 40 points.

The Chieftain girls were sparked by Emily Fulmer. She recorded a winning time of 1:05.19 in the 100 butterfly to break the school record by three seconds.

Fulmer was part of a second school record as she teamed with Molly Schulz, Jessica Miller and Emma Smith to win the 200 medley relay in 2:01.61.

“I am incredibly proud of all of our swimmers,” said BHS head coach Sharon Lewis. “From the record-breaking times of our veteran swimmers to our new swimmers competing for the first time, every swimmer on our team got in the pool and went as hard as they could.”
