Two things are certain about Indian Lake’s wrestling team at the end of each season.
1. They are battle tested.
2. They produce results.
That is a formula that has been around for over two decades at Indian Lake and has developed a consistent level of success that has only fueled more success.
“As a program, we win,” said head coach Scott Tressler. “Everyone wants to be part of a winner. When you do that, people want to work hard and are willing to do that. Because the success we’ve had, kids are willing to sacrifice a little more.”
I completely agree with that last statement. Too few understand what it truly takes to become successful, especially a state champion. It requires sacrifice and a relentless dedication to becoming better every day.
The two stars of this year’s squad are seniors Heath Lange and L.J. Henderson, who each placed fourth at the Division II state tournament last winter. Lange has been projected to finish as high as second in the state this year, while Henderson has been ranked sixth.
Lange has a high-intensity style and a continuous attack that I love. He worked out twice a day during the offseason and throughout the school year last season at 6 a.m.
That is true dedication.
Henderson is a stud football player and just plain tough. While his personality may not portray it, he has the same tenacity and style that makes elite state wrestlers.
