This time, Strickland moves on in solo role

TROY — The feeling of heading back to the state cross country meet wasn’t quite the same as it had been in the past, but Alyssa Strickland took her state berth with a smile here Saturday.

The West Liberty-Salem senior qualified to the state meet as an individual at the Division III regional meet after earning three previous trips to state with the Big Orange girls squad.

Strickland finished 11th overall and is now perfect in her prep career in cross country state meet appearances with four. Saturday’s berth was not met with much surprise.

“I was pretty confident I could get back to state on my own,” said Strickland.
