Tigers host rival Mechanicsburg in key league game
It was a position West Liberty-Salem’s football team has not found itself in often. Playing from behind.
The Tigers trailed for a majority of last Friday’s game at Greeneview before kicking a field goal with six seconds left to win 37-34. It was their 30th consecutive regular-season victory.
Another mighty test awaits WL-Salem this Friday when it hosts Mechanicsburg in an Ohio Heritage Conference game at 7 p.m.
“Last week’s game was certainly an experience that we grew from as a team,” said WL-Salem head coach Dan McGill. “I think that when our guys scored first there was a little bit of letting off the gas, so to speak. To Greeneview’s credit they responded by completely controlling the first half.
“With that said, I loved the way that after halftime our guys battled back and executed the adjustments that we were asking them to make. We were able to score the last 18 points and pull out a huge win. This is the type of experience that will help us battle in tight games as we come down the stretch.”
