WL-Salem golfers chasing state title

It will be anything but just another round of golf for West Liberty-Salem when it competes this weekend at the Division III state tournament.

The Tigers came into the season with the ultimate goal of getting to Columbus for the state tourney. Now that the group of seniors Jake Rutan and Casey Gay, juniors Nick Sims and Ethan McBean and freshman Kannon Stillings have cleared that hurdle, they want to win it all.

“After the district tournament, I told the guys we weren’t going to state just to go and have fun,” said head coach Darrin Leichty. “They looked at me and they told me right away that they were going there to win it.”
