Indian Lake’s boys soccer team picked up a big momentum boost Wednesday after knocking off visiting Greenon 3-1 in a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River division contest.
The Lakers improve to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the CBC Mad River division, while the Knights slip to 4-7, 3-5.
“Wow, what a game,” said Indian Lake boys head coach Jon Shoffstall. “It has been some time since we have beaten Greenon. They have won at least a share of the CBC since 2008, so this was a quality win.
“Our guys didn’t play exceptionally well in the first half, however, we really got after it in the second half. I’m really excited for our program, our team and our seniors.”
Parker Grothaus scored off an assist from Dustin Roby in the first half to put Indian Lake ahead 1-0 at halftime.
The second half saw Roby score off an assist from Cody Beair, which put the Lakers up 2-0. Brandon Gillen added a third goal off an assist from Dylan Cline for a 3-0 score.
Greenon’s only goal came on a penalty kick in the second half.
“Our defense did an excellent job pressuring their forwards and we made them take deep shots,” said Shoffstall. “On offense, we still squandered a few chances, however, I’m happy with the effort and result.”
