FINDLAY — Urbana quarterback D.J. Mendenhall passed for a career-high 450 yards and accounted for five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing), but it wasn’t enough as Urbana dropped its season-opener 51-33 on the road against Findlay.
The Blue Knights held the advantage in total offense, 537-475, but were plagued by five turnovers in the game. After Urbana got to within a touchdown at 26-20 midway through the third quarter, the Oilers used a big play on special teams returning a kickoff 91 yards for a score and would not allow the Blue Knights to get any closer the rest of the way.
Mendenhall completed 37-of-56 for 450 yards and four TD passes. Joe Webb hauled in eight passes for 115 yards and one touchdown. David Hill had 16 carries for 60 yards. D'Gary Wallace led UU defensively with 12 tackles.
