The start of the 2013 prep football season ushers in sweeping changes for the local prep gridiron scene.
Three new coaches will be roaming the sidelines for their respective schools, while an additional division added by the Ohio High School Athletic Association has resulted in a shakeup for most of the area’s teams.
On the coaching front, Toby Smith is now at Bellefontaine after a stellar run at West Liberty-Salem. In his place is Dan McGill, a former WL-Salem player and assistant coach.
Riverside also has a new leader by the name of McGill. Dan’s brother Tim is back to guide the Pirates. He coached at the school from 2000 until 2003, taking the 2003 squad to the playoffs.
In an effort to add more balance, the OHSAA decided to make a seventh division starting this season. Because of that addition, all but Bellefontaine is moving divisions.
