The Ultimate Fighting Championship is making a push into China, and Bellefontaine’s Scott Sheeley is right in the middle of it.

Sheeley, who trained UFC fighter Cung Le for a fight in China last November, will return to the country for seven weeks to take part in The Ultimate Fighter: China reality television show.

The Ultimate Fighter, which consists of up-and-coming mixed martial arts fighters competing for a spot in the UFC, has been widely popular in the United States.

Two fighters Sheeley trains, Bellefontaine’s Justin Edwards and Columbus resident Matt Brown, appeared on the show and went on to receive UFC invites based on their efforts.

The UFC has become big in many foreign countries. China has become the newest focus for MMA’s top production.

“I was over in China for Cung’s fight with Rich Franklin and I talked to some of the people there about some marketing ideas,” said Sheeley. “Cung put in a good word for me (with the UFC) and told them that I would be a good instructor for the show because of my background with Sanshou.”
