Urbana tabs Marino as new football coach

The Urbana High School Athletic Department announced this morning that Nick Marino has accepted the position of head varsity football coach.

Official approval by the Board of Education is expected during the next regular board meeting on Thursday, June  20.

A 2007 UHS graduate, Marino replaces Geron Stokes, who recently stepped down to take the same position at Minster.

“As a graduate of UHS and former player for the Hillclimbers, Nick  has a great understanding of the history and tradition of this football program,” said Urbana superintendent Charles Thiel in a press release. “We look forward to him using his many talents to lead our athletes.”

Marino was a four-year starter on the Hillclimbers’ football team and also played basketball. After high school, he played football for two year at Wittenberg University. He eventually graduated from Urbana University.

He served as an assistant coach at Urbana for the last four years. He was the defensive coordinator during three of those seasons.

Marino is a middle school technology teacher at Urbana.
