Chiefs drop pair to Patriots

Bellefontaine was unable to get the breaks it needed in a pair of losses to Olentangy Liberty on Saturday at Blue Jacket Park.

The host Chiefs fell 10-8 in the opener and then lost 9-6 in nine innings in the second game.

Bellefontaine is now 13-7 on the season.

In the opener, the Chiefs jumped out to a 4-1 lead after two innings.

However, the Patriots scored five runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-4 advantage.

Bellefontaine closed to within a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Liberty came back with four runs in the top of the seventh to lead 10-5.

The Chiefs mounted a rally with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough.

Drake Roebuck went 2-3 with two RBI to spark the Chiefs in the opener.

Also for BHS, Tyler Shamblin went 2-4 with an RBI, Nick Burton had a double and an RBI and Trent Nicholl had a pair of hits.

In the second game, the Patriots took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning.

The Chiefs scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth to knot the score at 2-2.

Each team scored a run in the sixth inning to make the score 3-3.

Liberty went up 5-3 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, but Bellefontaine responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth inning, the Patriots put up four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the ninth for a 9-5 lead.

Bellefontaine mustered a run in the bottom of the ninth as Liberty held on for the sweep.

Jarrod Houchin went 3-4 with an RBI to pace Bellefontaine’s offense in game two. Nicholl went 2-4 with a double and Gauge Hayman and Roebuck each added two hits.

Bellefontaine is back in action today at Stebbins.

Ridgemont gets swept by Tree of Life

Ridgemont’s baseball team lost a pair of games to host Tree of Life in a doubleheader Saturday.

Tree of Life won the opener 3-2 and took the second game 5-1.

In the first game, Tyler Tillman suffered the loss on the mound despite striking out 11.

Tillman also had a pair of hits at the plate.

In the second game, Michael McCloud had two hits to lead Ridgemont.
